Graphics AwardPort Elgin/Owen Soundby Kevin Bernard Austin Graphics of Port Elgin and Owen Sound was one of 79 companies in all of North America to be named for the award from Agfa, for achieving a level of excellence in environmental printing practices. Manager Helen Misener says a main reason the company is being recognized was Austin's purchase of a chemistry-free printing plate maker. The direct-to-plate system eliminates the use of chemicals and reduces waste. The machine uses vegetable based soy inks and recycles and reuses ink. At the same time, Austin Graphics uses recycled paper from a company that promotes good forest management. Misener says being more green is not the cheapest route to go, but it's the best way to go. Austin Graphics is a small printing company based in Owen Sound and Port Elgin with 13 employees. |
