Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says it's about time the municipality shows its support for the LGBTQ community during Pride Week.
To that end, Charbonneau has introduced a notice of motion to town council, calling for a Pride flag to be displayed on a prominent municipal flag pole, preferably at the Saugeen Shores Police Station.
He says, "The town of Saugeen Shores is an open and welcoming community for everybody."
Charbonneau says he decided to present the notice of motion, after a number of people approached him wondering why other communities around the world are recognizing Pride Week but Saugeen Shores isn't.
He says, "Frankly, I had no good answer to that."
According to council procedure, the Notice of Motion was presented but won't be considered by council until its February 26th meeting.
Charbonneau hopes he gets the support of councillors and "Then after that it's supported by the community."
Pride Week in 2018 will be celebrated the first week of June.
