Gearing Up for 31st Annual Pumpkinfest

Saugeen Shores | by John Divinski

Pumpkinfest organizers are ready to beat last year's 17 per cent visitor increase.

"Holy pumpkinfest Batman, you're coming to Port Elgin!"
Pumpkinfest Chair Brad Scott shared the big news with Saugeen Shores Committee of the Whole.
He says they've "Just confirmed that Batman and the Batmobile from Brampton will be coming to the event both days."
You may have seen stories on national media about Batman and the good work he does in the Toronto area.
It's all part of the 31st annual Pumpkinfest to be held in downtown Port Elgin on September 30th and October 1st.
Scott says the traditional weigh-offs will still be the focus of the event.
He says it's been a wet summer so he doesn't know what to expect but many from Ontario and Quebec have indicated they're coming to Port Elgin.
Meanwhile, Chamber of Commerce President Pier Donini, looking to the future, says organizers want to expand the Pumpkinfest committee to include the entire community, much like the Canada 150 committee did locally.
Donini says it's hoped such a move will bring in fresh ideas to build the event.
Pumpkinfest last year, created an economic benefit to the fown of 1.4-million-dollars.
Council has agreed to spot organizers a $30,000 repayable loan should they need the financial help this year.
