Land Dispute Hearing Wrapping Up

Owen Sound | by Kevin Bernard

An OMB hearing set to wrap up in Owen Sound in a dispute over a land expropriation.

An OMB hearing is set to wrap up today in Owen Sound in a dispute over a land expropriation.

Owen Sound Director of Operations Ken Becking says the city tried to acquire some property from the owner of the land where the UPI gas bar sits at 1510 9th avenue east, back in 2015.

A deal couldn't be worked out on 3 metres across the front of the property, so Owen Sound proceeded under the Expropriation Act.

Dal Basra appealed the expropriation, and the Ontario Municipal board hearing ran all of last week at the Best Western Inn on the Bay in Owen Sound.

Basra says final arguments are being heard today, and the OMB Chair who has been hearing the case will then adjourn to consider the case.

Basra referred to a $1 million dollar lawsuit against the city of Owen Sound when talking with Bayshore Broadcasting news, but Ken Becking indicated he wasn't aware of anything like that.

Officials with the Ontario Municipal board in Toronto declined to say whether a lawsuit had actually been filed in the dispute.
