It was a banner day for Chesley.

The community welcomed a new industry, new investment and received gifts as well on Friday.

Turuss Wood Industry of China has it's first plant in Canada and it's in Chesley.

Turuss Canada was introduced to investors and guests at a special ceremony.

Parent Company Chief Executive Li Guoning says through an interpreter -- they are planning a big, sound business for Chesley, first by preparing hardwood lumber at the plant for shipment to China and then eventually manufacturing their furniture and flooring products in Chesley itself.

Li says they will invest some 20-million-dollars over the next two years and hope to have 300 employees in a couple of years time.

Right now, the plant employs only 15.

Arran Elderslie Mayor Paul Eagleson says this is what the doctor ordered.

He says the 150 thousand square foot plant -- which formerly housed Durham Furniture -- has been empty for six years and he looks forward to seeing activity at it again.

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker played down the provincial government's release about having played a part in the process.

Walker says it was local initiatives that got Turuss to locate in Chesley which will in turn, be good for the province.

Chinese company officials also came bearing gifts with a 10 thousand dollar donation for the municipality.

Five thousand dollarswill go towards the new Chesley Medical Clinic which officially opens on October 13th -- and five thousand will go to the municipality's doctor recruitment fund.
