Knowing the DifferenceGrey Bruceby Daryl Morris OSPCA Spokesperson Kristin Williams says their Bruce Grey branch is sanctioned under the OSPCA Act. She says this gives their officers and inspectors police powers to enforce animal cruelty laws and investigate claims of cruelty and neglect. Williams says the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter, on the other hand, does not have the authority to investigate abuse calls. She says not knowing who to call to report abuse has been a problem for many residents, and they hope to clear that up. Williams notes both provide shelter services for lost, abandoned or mistreated animals, as well as animals that families couldn't keep. She says both services rely on donations from the general public, but often, people don't know which shelter they're committing their money to. This can particularily be a problem if it's money left through a will, and Williams hopes people will take the time to make sure the money is going where it is suppposed to. Williams also points out the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter is not a registered charity while the Bruce-Grey branch of the OSPCA is. She says if you're looking for a tax receipt for your donation, you will get one from the OSPCA, but not from the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter. |
