Saugeen Shores Police have arrested and charged a 36-year-old man they allege is responsible for several recent break and enters, and thefts.
Town Police say an investigation was launched on Tuesday into a break, enter and theft at the Woodpecker Lounge in Port Elgin.
Police say during the investigation officers collected physical evidence that could identify a suspect.
Later that day -- July 28 -- police say a male known to them was observed stealing items from Canadian Tire in Port Elgin.
Police say an investigation linked that suspect to the break-in at the Woodpecker Lounge.
Then, according to police, an officer on general patrol on Thursday spotted the suspect riding a bicycle on Bricker Street in Port Elgin.
Town Police say the suspect tried to hide his identity, riding south on Bricker Street. However, the officer caught up with the male suspect at Eugenie Street and arrested him for the theft from Canadian Tire.
Shortly after the male was arrested, police say he was identified as being responsible for the break and enter at the Woodpecker Lounge.
In addition, police say an officer who was investigating two break and enters at commercial units at Maple Square Mall identified the 36-year-old man as being responsible.
A 36-year-old Bruce County man faces numerous offences, including four counts of theft under $5,000.
Saugeen Shores Police did not identify the accused.
