Fire At West Side Owen Sound Apartment

Owen Sound | by Matt Hermiz

Police officer first on scene managed to extinguish blaze.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to a fire at west side Owen Sound apartment complex early Saturday morning.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 5:45 a.m. at apartments at 305 14th Street West, across the street from the Brian E Wood Funeral Home.

Owen Sound Police say an officer attended the fourth floor unit and was able to extinguish the fire. Firefighters arrived just after to complete the containment of the blaze.

The officer suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated on scene. No one else was injured. The resident who lives inside the unit vacated it safely, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A fire department official says the fourth floor of the apartment building was evacuated temporarily.

The blaze was contained to the kitchen. A fire department official says it's believed the source of the blaze was cooking materials in the stove.
