Port Elgin BIA Urging Residents to Support Local Businesses

Saugeen Shores | by Megan Johnson

Chair of the BIA, Addison Ziegler asks people to consider delivery options or purchase gift certificates

The Port Elgin BIA is appealing to the public to continue to support downtown businesses.

Yesterday the Province declared a State of Emergency due to the spread of COVID-19  and a part of the declaration requires restaurants and bars to close, however they can still operate take-out and delivery service. In addition all events or gatherings of over 50 people will not be permitted.

BIA Chair Addison Ziegler says it's of the upmost importance to follow instructions of public health officials to slow the spread of COVID-19, but says there are ways to still support small businesses.

"Ask about delivery options, arrange payments over the phone or online. Consider purchasing gift certificates now for use when the pandemic is over."

He says this would provide some desperately-needed cash-flow to "weather these difficult times".

"One of the great things about our community is how we rally around those who need a little help. When life returns to normalcy, whenever that is, it will be critical that we all come together to support our business community" he says.
