Saugeen Shores is getting a Rainbow Crosswalk which will be unveiled at the start of June to kick-off Pride Month.
Deputy Mayor Don Matheson says he floated the idea on social media to rave reviews and included it in the Saugeen Shores 2020 Municiple Budget.
"We look at Saugeen Shores being a very inclusive community and everyone feels welcome...we (Saugeen Shores) celebrates Pride Month and we thought we could do something a little bit different this year."
The colourful crosswalk will be located on Gustavus Street next to Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS).
Matheson says the price of the crosswalk will cost $10,000 and Council has set aside $5,000 to cover some of the cost and will look for community donations to off-set the remainder.
The Deputy Mayor says the colours of the rainbow will be infused by hear and is not your typical road paint.
'This paint job will last anywhere between 8-10 years."
Matheson, a teacher at SDSS says the school's Gender Sexuality Alliance will be a big part of the June 1 unveiling which will close down Gustavus Street for a the official ribbon-cutting.
