A Saugeen Shores resident is questioning town council's spending of money on conferences that could be used on more institutional issues.
Laura Robinson says she was "shocked" when she learned the Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey request for funds was not included in the 2020 budget.
As it turns out, the facility will get $2,500, along with Huron Shores Hospice and $5,000 to the Rail Trail Association, after money was found for the expenditures and tentatively approved on February 24th.
Robinson suggests money is being spent needlessly on various conferences that could be covered online.
She says if conferences need to be attended then transparency, accountability and communication should be the watchwords with more consideration given to local wants and needs.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says council is looking at a charity grant policy for future requests.
He warns organizations should not rely on grants year after year from Saugeen Shores and incorporating them into their operating budgets.
