West Grey Police are in need of a new home, as they have outgrown their current police headquarters.
As such, the Municipality of West Grey has spent $1 million purchasing a parcel of land on Durham Road West for the new build project. (Across the road from Country Corner Eatery ).
West Grey Police are currently operating out of the original home of the Durham Police in the former P.U.C. (public utility commission) building in Durham.
Mayor Christine Robinson says it has come to the point that a new build is necessary to accommodate the municipality's police service, as the current and aging building is busting at the seams with West Grey's 22 officers.
Ideally, Robinson says they would like to get the shovel in the ground soon with a 2020 start on construction.
Staff are currently in the process of drafting up a Request For Proposal which will then go before Council for approval before the project can be put to tender.
It is estimated the build project could cost anywhere in the range from 3 to 5 million dollars.
Robinson says West Grey Police provide excellent community policing to citizens and she is eager to see this much needed project move forward.
