South Bruce Peninsula council has received an update from RJ Burnside on the Wiarton Big Dig.
The Berford Street reconstruction design is now at 90% completion.
Senior Project Engineer for Burnside, Vic Bohdanow believes the concepts the engineering firm has presented is within the desires of the community.
The Big Dig on Wiarton's Berford Street will extend from Division Street to Elm Street and includes a reconfiguration of the street to create what is called "traffic calming" so motorists take the time to go through the downtown core and see what it has to offer.
The reconstruction with also includes improved underground services, landscaping and pedestrian amenities.
Mayor Janice Jackson calls it a "legacy project," saying she's really excited about the "once in a lifetime project" and what it's going to look like when finished.
Jackson says project estimates came in at 7.8-million-dollars but stands at 8-million now and might come in a little higher than that.
Burnside will be back later this month with its design completion presentation and if approved by council. tendering for the big dig will be put out in March.
If all goes well, construction could begin in April.
