It's not a pleasant topic but a necessary one and Bruce County Paramedic Services is taking the next step.
According to the Director of Paramedic Services Steve Schaus, some organ donors who pass away outside a hospital setting don't actually become organ donors.
Schaus says his group hopes to change that by signing a data sharing agreement with the Trillium Gift of Life Network.
He says if a patient does pass away outside the hospital, the paramedic can check to see if that person agreed to organ donation.
If so, the Trillium group would be notified and they would take the necessary steps for donation.
He says through this new program that will start in April, these patients can have their wishes followed and that could help a lot of people throughout the province.
One deceased patient donating their tissues can help up to 75 other people.
The Bruce County Paramedic Services Committee approved the program at its regular meeting on January 9th.
