Provincial Police have made a grim discovery in the rubble left behind following a house fire in Grey Highlands, confirming what was feared after one occupant was unaccounted for.

Grey Bruce OPP say remains were located Friday in a search of the burned out residence at Artemesia-Euphrasia Townline, east of Grey Road 13, near Markdale.

The home was completely destroyed by fire Thursday morning.

The Ontario Coroner's Office is now involved in the investigation.

Grey Bruce OPP say a post mortem examination will be performed before identifying the deceased.

Police, Grey Highlands firefighters and Grey County paramedics were called to the house just after 7 a.m. Thursday morning and arrived to find it fully engulfed in flames.

Grey Bruce OPP say officers at the scene were able to account for two of the three occupants living in the residence. One of them was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

The Ontario Fire Marshal is involved in the investigation. The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.

Artemesia-Euphrasia Townline was closed for several hours Thursday as Grey Highlands firefighters battled the blaze.
