It's a first, a Bruce Power supplier has located in Brockton.
A world renowned and global leader in industrial testing and inspections has set up shop in Walkerton.
Applus+ (pronounced A+) specializes in non-destructive testing of equipment in the advanced manufacturing and energy sectors, including nuclear.
Eastern Regional Director Paul Galloway says locating in Walkerton was a strategic move as Applus+ continues to grow and diversify its operations.
He says locating near Canada's first private nuclear generator and in a Town recognized for its local commitment from employees and employers to provide quality products made Walkerton a logical choice.
Nuclear Service Manager Eric Gallant agrees, adding he fell in love with the area the very first time he visited.
Mayor Chris Peabody calls it exciting news, noting that Applus+ offers high paying jobs in the skilled trades sector and he is looking forward to the company growing in the community.
Galloway says it is too early to determine just yet how many new jobs this office will create, however he notes that Applus+ offices across the country typically employ between 30 to 35 individuals.
Last Thursday, Applus+ held a ribbon cutting ceremony and an open house demonstrating its non-destructive testing and inspection technologies.
This included showcasing their ultrasonic imaging technology, SCAR radiography, rope access inspections and heat treatment solutions.
Applus+ is located in the Trillium Court Building in Walkerton on the Kincardine highway.
Applus+ is present in over 70 countries working from 350 offices and laboratories employing over 22 thousand people.
