Planned Vigil For Women In Port Elgin

Port Elgin | by John Divinski

December 6th is Canada's National Day of Remembrance & action against Violence Against Women.

Friday, December 6th marks the 30th anniversary of a massacre at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in which 14 women were murdered.

A chilling account tells the story of how the men were separated from the women by the shooter and then the women were gunned down for no other reason than they were women.

It's all part of the violence against women that doesn't seem to change, according to Canadian Federation of Women (CFUW) spokesperson Pat Sanagan.

She spoke to Saugeen Shores councillors on November 25th, inviting them to take part in the CFUW's 29th annual Vigil Against Violence Against Women, on Friday, December 6th at 12 noon at Coulter Parkette in Port Elgin.

Sanagan says the 14 women who were killed in Montreal, "represent all the women who don't have a voice.....and are living with violence everyday."

This year, CFUW will also highlight the White Ribbon campaign that encourages men and boys to wear a white ribbon until December 6th, which is Canada's National Day of Remembrance and action of Violence Against Women.
