Port Elgin | by Matt Hermiz

Police say 18-year-old from Hanover resisted arrest in Port Elgin after allegedly stealing an ATV.

A Hanover teen faces numerous charges after allegedly kicking and trying to trip a police officer while being arrested in Port Elgin.

Saugeen Shores Police say on Monday around 7 p.m. an ATV was reported stolen from a property on Concession 14 East in Arran-Elderslie.

Police say just over an hour later an officer spotted an un-plated ATV being operated by a male wearing no helmet on Goderich Street in Port Elgin.

The officer stopped the ATV in the parking lot behind the CIBC on Goderich Street.

Municipal police say the 18-year-old male was properly identified and found to be a prohibited driver from a previous conviction of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Police say the man was placed under arrest for driving while prohibited and possession of property obtained by crime.

Saugeen Shores Police say the 18-year-old from Hanover immediately began to resist officers, kicking and trying to trip one of them.

The accused was eventually restrained and transported to the police station.

He was later released with a court date on six offences, including assault to resist arrest.
