Another local business has signed up to be a sponsor of this year's Gran Fondo, Lake Huron.
During a $2,500 cheque presentation at the Bruce Telecom offices in Tiverton, the company became a Silver Sponsor of the biking event.
Sales and Marketing Manager Erin Hammond says the Southampton Hospital and the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) are important to health care in the region.
Hammond says "We recognize that hospitals rely on contributions from local businesses and residents to help bridge the gap between government funding and the resources required to meet the needs of the community. Our staff, friends, neighbours and customers benefit from our local hospitals and this is our way of giving back."
On a personal note, Hammond says she's getting ready to tackle the 70K route in the Gran Fondo this year, after successfully completing the 30K ride last year.
SMHF Executive Director Tracy Murray says it's sponsors like Bruce Telecom that are making this year's Gran Fondo a promising success.
Murray says right now 334 riders have registered for the August event.
She says they're ahead of last year's numbers and are on target to hit 800 riders.
Their goal is to raise $150,000 for the purchase of equipment at the Southampton Hospital.
This year's Gran Fondo, features courses of 30, 70, 110 and 160K routes and goes August 18th.
Bayshore Broadcasting (98 the Beach & Mix 106.5) is the major media sponsor of the family-friendly cycling event
