Unemployment in the economic region that includes Grey and Bruce counties increased in February.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board reports the jobless rate hit 5.6 per cent last month in the region from Stratford to the Bruce Peninsula, up 1.1 percentage points compared to January.
The provincial unemployment rate rose slightly in February as well, hitting 5.4 per cent. Nationally, the jobless rate held steady at 5.8 per cent.
In all, the local economy shaved 4,600 jobs in February with 4,000 of those being full-time. The construction, accommodation/food services, financial, insurance, real estate and rental/leasing and wholesale/retail trade sectors led the job losses.
This was slightly offset by job gains in the utilities, professional, scientific and technical services, agriculture, educational services and transportation/warehousing sectors.
