Salaries Paid To Bruce County Councillors

Bruce County | by John Divinski

Taxpayers put out just over $256,000 for pay and expenses of Bruce County Council.

It's that time of year, when the 2018 salaries of various government bodies is announced.

Taxpayers put out just over $256,000 for remuneration and expenses of Bruce County Council.

The number includes compensation for some selected members appointed to committes as well.

When it was suggested some people may think over a quarter-million-dollars for remuneration may be a bit much, current Warden and Huron Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan said he would argue the compensation was fair for the time and the number of committees the 8 council members sit on.

He says, "It is what it is.  That's the price of doing business."

Last year's Warden Paul Eagleson's remuneration only was just over $35,600.

The high councillor was Twolan at just over $25,900 and the low councillor was Kincardine Mayor Anne Eadie at $22,500.

Meanwhile, the current council has approved a bylaw that calls for the Warden's Honourarium in 2019 to be just over $34,600.

Councillors will get a basic honourarium of just over $20,700.
