Three names are in the running for the new Grade 7 and 8 school that will be housed inside Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) this September.
Saugeen District SENIOR School is one option presented on an online survey on the SDSS website. Other names include: Saugeen District School, as well as Port Elgin Senior Elementary and Saugeen District Secondary School.
The suggested names for the new school followed a brainstorming session by the Grade 7 and 8 Relocation Transition Committee, December 5.
The Committee includes: students, parents, school community council, staff and administration representation from the three schools involved in the transition.
"The committee recognized the need to discuss the school name as the first step in the transition process," said SDSS Principal Melissa McEwen January 22. Adding, "we want the name to be respectful and inclusive to all students, new and old at Saugeen."
The deadline to complete the survey is January 31. The results will be discussed at the next committee meeting February 6.
It has already been determined that school mascot, Royal Roy, will represent both schools, while school colours for the Senior Royal students will remain blue, white and gold, while the 7 and 8 students colours will be just blue and gold.
More information about the transition can be found on the Bluewater District School Board website.
