Big Bruce Tryouts Set

Chesley | by Bayshore News Staff

Volleyball Club Begins December 4th

The Big Bruce Volleyball Club is inviting boys in the Grey - Bruce area, born in 2000 or later to two open try out practices on Tuesday, December 4th   and Tuesday, December 11th. The Big Bruce Volleyball Club uses Chesley District Community School as its home location on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 9:30pm.  The club provides an opportunity for high school age boys who enjoy playing volleyball to develop their skills and to gain competitive experience. If a boy who has played on his high school team (junior or senior) and now wants to play more volleyball then the BBVC is a great opportunity!

The head coach of the BBVC is former Chesley Cougars’ senior volleyball coach Barry Mutrie. Barry is a former captain and assistant coach of the Ontario provincial team. He has coached several provincial championship teams at the senior Mens and OFSAA levels as well as many CWOSSA championship teams. The club also features an excellent number of associate coaches such as Steve Taylor (Port Elgin), Kelly Farrow (Chesley), Dylan Subject (Chesley), Tanya Byers (Walkerton) and Jason Becker captain of the OFSAA gold medal winning Chesley Cougars in 2006.

Many former Big Bruce players have gone on to play at the university and college level. Players wanting to try out for university/college programs will need this club experience if they are to be successful at that level.

The BBVC runs from December to late April and consists of weekly practices on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:30pm. The club also participates in tournaments as part of the Southwestern Ontario 18U volleyball league. Players will have the opportunity to compete against teams from Chatham, Stratford, Wingham, and Owen Sound.

The registration fee is $150.00 which includes OVA registration, insurance, practices, two sets of uniform shirts, shorts and league fees.

This is an exciting and challenging volleyball experience. All players receive playing time at tournaments. Players will return to their high school teams with improved skills, the ability to play at a higher team play level and improved confidence in their abilities.

Interested players can contact Barry Mutrie at 1-519-270-4461 or by e-mail at abmut01@gmail.com before the first practice on December 4th .

The club is also looking for associate coaches who wish to gain valuable coaching experience under the direction of the head coach. Interested coaches are encouraged to contact Barry Mutrie.
