While you enjoy this year's Halloween candy haul, conservationists suggests next year could be more environmentally friendly.
Coastal Technologist at the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation, Tineasha Brenot, says the majority of Halloween snack wrappers are non-recyclable.
That includes all the plastic wrappers covering your chocolates, candies, and gummies.
Brenot suggests opting for candy options that utilize paper packaging rather than plastic, similar to Smarties.
Cans of pop or juice, or pencils and erasers for kids to use at school are alternatives to items with plastic packaging.
One-and-done Halloween decorations, like cotton webbing, also ends up in landfills without much use.
Brenot recommends buying or crafting decorations that can be used for many years.
